Kickass Records Newsletter 0707

What goes around comes around, new band, new show, new quotes and desperate times call for desperate measures!

Releases
Only one thing to report, but it's important. I've listened to the unfinished mix of the Second Base EP (still needs mastering done by one of the biggest names in hardcorepunk) and let my tell you this: It's goooood! Notice the multiple "o"'s? Yep, it's THAT good. They've put their heart and soul in this record and if you've ever been to a Second Base show and/or talked to Stijn, you know these aren't empty words. So expect this bomb of punkrock awesomeness to drop early February on this small, independent but great label called Kickass Records! Fuck yeah!

Shows
Everyone not at the Smash The Statues gig missed one of the best shows ever. Thanks to everyone who was there, all the bands and the people who helped out!

Next punkrock party at Leuven is on December 13th, once again at SOJO. On the roster:
Drunktank (nl): Fast skatepunk in the vein of Pulley & Pennywise
Pendleton (uk): Technical & melodic punkrock on Bells On Records. Just came back from a US tour!
Face The Fax: Leuven/Antwerp punkrock trio expanding on their legacy with every show they play!
State Of Mine: Newly formed all star line-up bringing you the good stuff from the '90.

Also, important Kickass Fest news. Since we've grown quite fond of the 3000 area, we've decided to relocate Kickass Fest to Leuven. Not only that, but since summer is already full of awesome stuff, we've decided to postpone Kickass Fest 'till October 2008.

However, hold on to your hats, shoes, pants, jackets, balls & boobs: early February you can expect the Second Base EP release show. Make sure to keep an eye on our dates section on our website/myspace/newsletter for the date, 'cause you will not want to miss this great punkrockparty.

Kickass HQ
First off, we'd like to welcome our newest volunteer, Geert S. Simonis. He helped us out at the last gig and got hooked on punkrock(babes), so he decided to become a regular. He has also released his second collection of poetry, all DIY, available at the Kickass Distro for only 1 euro.

We also welcome the great Ladbroke to the Kickass Records family. These awesome punkrockers not only won over our hearts with their great cd, but especially with the conversation we had with them at Funtime Fest. So you'll be able to buy their bewb-filled cd at our distro and some of our stuff at their merch table set up on the West-Side of Belgium. Yeah, that's how we roll.

We've stocked up on some great new records in the distro, such as: Tenement Kids "doves" ep, This Is A Standoff, Ladbroke, True Colors and Common Cause. And all those timeless classic hardcore/punkrock albums for cheap cheap price. Come out and say "HEY YOU LOUSY SUNUVABITCH, HOW MUCH FOR THIS CD" at the following shows:

  • 10 November: Skin Of Tears (Last show) @ Choke, Herselt
  • 16 November: Exit On The Left (EP release show) @ JC Klinker, Aarschot
  • 17 November: Punkfest @ JH Animoro, Sint Genesius Rode
And since it seems girls dig DJ's, Pie & Petit might make a guest appearance at the Exit On The Left Release After Party. Management is in dire need for (barely illegal) pussy.

To round up yet another exciting Kickass Records newsletter, we will share some of the wisdom that has been floating around Kickass HQ:
  • "we solve everything by putting something in ze bumbum" - Dekontridder
  • "Gij geeft mij ni genoeg aandacht nimeer" - Trouble in paradise, Pie to Petit
  • "everybody does dope, smokes and drinks and I fuck underage, so what's the problem?" - Pie
  • "magekik de mijne neki in den uwe steke" - Dirty (fr)Ed(dy)

Kickass Records Newsletter 0706

Manchester, dutch invasion and the man trying to keep us down, all in this newsletter! And check out the fancy updated website!

Releases
Exciting times when it comes to Kickass punkrock. Both Durai and Second Base are going to hit the studio to record their new stuff. The original split plans however have been replaced by a Durai full length and probably a Second Base EP. Having heared the pre recordings from Second Base I can guarantee that magic will happen in Portugal. And since Petit will probably be present at the Durai recordings, those are bound to be awesome aswell.

Hangin' Out is also busy writing new songs for the follow up to In Common Solitudes, expect updates on that in early 2008. If you haven't picked up In Common Solitudes yet, you really really really really should.

Shows
Despite the system trying to fuck us over, we're still dedicated enough to put on awesome shows. Coming up in the next months:

On October 21e dutch political punkrockers Smash The Statues are stopping by Leuven on their way back from the UK. You like Propagandhi, Adhesive and Strike Anywhere? You'll love these guys! Supported by Second Base (Aarschots finest), Face The Fax (Back and better than ever) and Goddamn Hippies (Last show, dance hard or die). All this for only 3 euro in JH SOJO in Leuven/Kessel Lo.

On December 13e, Drunktank (nl) and Pendleton (uk) will be visiting Leuven to kick some ass. Supporting them is State Of Mine, a mix of Skyrocket John, Dad's Amp and Pukin' Monkeys members, serving up the type of '90 punkrock we all know and love.

Kickass HQ
So, the website really needed some updating, so from now on, you have decent bandprofiles, decent release details and basicly decent everything.

Meeting the Durai guys in Manchester has left Petit drunk, broke and confused so if you see our distro at a show, come buy something to make him happy again. While you are at it, you'll notice we have a petition running against some of the greediest people in music. Help us out by signing it, showing punkrock is not part of any "industry"!

If you haven't done so already, check the following guys/gals out:

  • Ladbroke: West Coast gangsta's who want to get in your sisters pants with fast punkrock. It's funny 'cause it's true.
  • Face The Fax: Hell, now that they are a threesome, they rock harder than ever. It had been a long time since I last saw them, but the NoBrand benefit gig proved once again that Face The Fax is one of the funnest local live bands around.
  • Exit On The Left: Having heared the entire demo, I can give this band my seal of approval. And Ed has a hot girlfriend.
  • No Brand Skateboarding: Quality decks for a low price supporting a good cause. Why buy anything else?

Kickass Records Newsletter 0705

Hey you punkrock lovin' mofo's, welcome to the Kickass Summer Newsletter. Juicy tourstories, embarrassing facts from our youth, quotes of 2007 and some real news. Let's get it on.

Releases
Due to baths and fuckups, Live Fast Die! : Part Deux was not available at Kickass Fest. Which sucked. But it's here now and man, it rules! I won't repeat the playlist, but you can rest assured, it still contains 29 awesome hardcoreskapunkrockandroll anthems. Punk-O-Rama is long dead, long live Live Fast Die!

Speaking of delayed releases, due to a broken down camper, the Drunktank EP didn't make it to Kickass Fest either and neither did the band. It sucks, we know, but the EP has also landed at Kickass HQ. Get it NOW!

Pick On The Fat Kid Discography has more people siked than we could imagine, but everyone should have a bit more patience. This thing is still in the planning stages, so don't expect a release date set in stone.

The awesome free "This is (Kickass Records) Punkrock - 2007 Sampler" cd is completely gone, faulty playlist included. But we'll be doing a reprint next month on new colors, with a new song and with 10% less fuckups. For the collectors of the first print out there:
20 were printed on orange, 20 on green and 9 on babyblue.

Kickass HQ
It has been a busy month at Kickass HQ. Cancellations, power shortages and assholes galore at Kickass Fest, Durai tour wreaking havoc on Petit's body, printing mishaps, spagethio's fuckin' up freezers, bbq's, Tom smoking cigars, planning an E314 exit 22 chainsaw massacre and giving interviews to bigshot poets have taken all our time.

As supreme punkrock beings, we also have some demands for all of you puny punkrock fans. First off, when going to shows, go watch all the bands, even if it is for only 5 minutes, instead of "chillin" outside. Secondly, listen more to Descendents and Propagandhi. And finally, buy Live Fast Die! : Part Deux, the Drunktank EP and the Hangin' Out full from our distro NOW!

Now, gossip time. It appears Pie used to have a britney spears poster in his room. He later had a Kournikova poster, but didn't know squat about tennis. I'm guessing the first poster was still about the music, but the second one was laminated. Also, according to his mom, he hasn't changed in 20 years. He still wears the same style of oversized shorts and his baseball cap backwards. We are still trying to get our hands on photographic evidence.

Durai tour across France was awesome, but let me tell you this, the french payage is a financial ass raping and you travel just as easy/fast if you take the regional roads. Just takes a bit more mapreading. We will start planning the 2008 summer tour in January, so if you want the awesome Durai to play your town, get in touch!

And last but not least, a small sample of quotes that passed by in the first half of 2007. For non-dutch speaking people, bummer.

  • There is no rape like date rape - Petit
  • Dude, ik ga ne osschot chainsaw massacre doen as die ni afkomt - Pie
  • Duim in mijn poep - Stijn Second Base
  • Ik kan nie dood, ik ben nen elf - Pie
  • Woopwoopwoopwoop - Gans kickass
  • black & decker 18" - Zandi

Kickass Records Newsletter 0704

Being the arrogant, self-centered superior jocks** that we are,
we skipped 2 months in our newsletter schedule. And there is nothing you can do about it!

Releases
Pick On The Fat Kid Discography: Before Gino's Eyeball and Milk The Fish, there was Pick On The Fat Kid, Old School Halle Punkrock. We'll be releasing a very limited run (50) of this disc containing the two long out of print demo's and some never released stuff. Handmade & numbered digipacks, details will follow.

Life Fast Die Part Deux!: Yeah that's right, the first compilation was such a success that we just couldn't wait for number 2. This time featuring: sketch the sun, jet market, wash out test, drunktank, mid air collision, bouvier, sellfish, mighty midgets, pukin' monkeys, all I know, second base, priceduifkes, gino's, dash, brickbat, smash the statues, overweight, life giving waters, by no means, n3kst, miss take, hot panty boys, richie don't die, axxident, pickle juice, skinny pride, progress and cranck. If your band wants to be on the next one, just send an email to lfd@kickassrecords.org, but don't sleep on it for too long, because due to the massive demand, we had to put several bands on the third installment because part deux was already full!

Shows
Durai will be on tour in France, the Netherlands and Belgium from July 2 untill July 11. Check out myspace.com/duraipunk for all their tourdates. Petit will be performing roadie-duties, so come and say hi. And if you happen to know a place where they can play July 8th somewhere in Belgium, let us know as soon as possible, we still need a gig then.

And now, the moment everyone has been waiting for, KICKASS FEST. Be ready to get your socks rocked straight off on July 7th by:

  • Drunktank: Dutch beer fueled punkrock
  • Gino's Eyeball: Belgium's punkrock hope in desperate times
  • Hangin' Out: Melodic Liege Punkrock
  • Durai: Technical a-typical hardcore punk rock from Manchester. Support touring bands!
  • Dad's Amp: Mol Skatepunk
  • Second Base: Osschot punkrock pride combining the raw power of NOFX with the lyrical structure of Rival Schools
  • Milk The Fish: Punkrock & Groll
  • Skyrocket John: Last show of these loud, fast and especially snotty punkers! Don't miss out!
  • Fading Moments: Gischbergen punkcore
  • Short On Time: Melodic Hardcore
  • Goddamn Hippies: punkhardcore

All this in "Feestzaal Balen" at Bevrijdingslaan 1, 2490 Balen, Belgium.
Doors at 2:30pm, damage 5 euro and beers 1 euro. If you need a place to stay after the fest, contact us at hq@kickassrecords.org and we'll work something out.

If you have/run a distro, don't be shy and bring it along, but try and let us know in advance.

Kickass HQ
Everybody who thinks music means big money is completely wrong. We are more broke than ever, but that's partially to blame on Pie and Petit adopting a bear (and calling him PiePie), Tom his fines for destroying small poles, legal fees due to certain bandmembers doing "stuff" with underage girls and heavy gambling.
So if there are "Idols" or "X factor" or "Supertalent Vlaanderen" candidates reading this, get in touch, we are willing to take your creativity, rape it and run away with the merits of your hard work, just like the big labels, but with the added bonus of a box of cookies. But all those small bands out there, send us your demo(tapes). We are always looking for new bands for our compilations, shows, fests, releases, splits, whatever. We've discovered some promising bands the last couple of months and we just know there is more out there.

While on the subject of good belgian bands: if you haven't picked up "Hangin' Out - In Common Solitudes" by now, don't wait another second and mail us for your copy. Only 10 euro for 12 awesome melodic punkrock tracks by these Liegeois heroes. Hell, they supported Big D, Reel Big Fish and No Fun At All the last couple of months.

And while on the subject of good belgian bands who have been at it for a while: STOP STOPPING! I mean, 2007 has gotten Hiroshima proportions when it comes to cool bands splitting. I mean, Face The Fax, guys, come'on, don't leave us. Skyrocket John, WHY OH WHY? And the worst part is that the most shitty bands just keep going! The first band that dares to split up will get a visit from Pie, Petit and their awesome bear PIEPIE, so beware!

If you run a distro, contact us for wholesale prices or trades, we're are always up for stuff like that.

Also, our "come say hey at a show"-policy no longer applies. From now on, we're in it for the money, so if you don't have some cold hard cash with you to buy half our distro, don't even bother.**

As always, our HQ was filled with quality tunes 24/7:
Into Another: May I, Powered
Second Base: Punk Is Trash No More
Justice: I Need Air
Blood For Blood: So Common, So Cheap
Slapshot: Crossover Sucks
Satanic Surfers: Sunshiny Day
Lagwagon: Coffee & Cigarettes
Better Than A Thousand: Alternative Nation
Gorilla Biscuits: Better Than You

** (Unsubstantiated rumours. We don't know where these are coming from, but who are we to argue?)

Kickass HQ
Kickass HQ department Leuven suffered bad from the passage of our Durai-friends. For some reason, they succeeded in clogging up the toilet. It took an entire 3 days and 3 bottles of toxic declogging liquid to dissolve. From this I conclude that the Brits can't hold their liquor.
To make sure this never ever happens again, we would like to ask you to buy stuff from our (in)famous distro, so I can stock up on de-clogging stuff and/or a bigger drainage system for my toilet.

Oh yeah, and the English their taste in beer sucks (oranjeboom? Jupiler Blue?), their castles are ugly (yeah, bigass drainage) and until further notice/proof, so are their women (I'm looking at you Dan)! But their punkrock kicks ass and they are fun to hang out with.

And that concludes my little rant. Proof that English woman are hot can always be send to hq@kickassrecords.org.

02 January 2007

Kickass Records Newsletter 0701

Welcome to 2007 and this year's first Kickass Records Newsletter. We don't hand out envelopes with money but we do bring news about cheap punkrock, cheap shows, cheap bowling and cheap sheepfucking!

Fresh Meat!
Being the young, handsome, ambition-driven go-get'em-ers that we are, we signed not one, not one and a half but two new bands to our already fantastic label-line-up. Completing the roster are the Funky Fresh Stage Destroyers of Milk The Fish! and the Liegeous punkrock heroes of Hangin' Out.

Not only does Hangin' Out hang around our website (haha, I made a funny), but we will be releasing their first (and our first) full length, called In Common Solitudes. It features ten tracks of blistering hardcore punkrock, remeniscent of early Rise Against/Big Wig, providing the perfect soundtrack for pumped up skatesessions. Release shows are planned on 19 January in JC Horizont and on 9 February in Liege.

Cheapness!
Another first is the release of Live Fast Die!, our very own compilation cd. It contains 78 minutes of quality tunes by Second Base, Milk The Fish!, Sketch The Sun, Hangin' Out, Appendix, Straighten Things Out, Antillectual, The Jux Junction, Pushed Too Far, Durai, Skyrocket John, Gino's eyeball, Dad's Amp, Kump°Hoven, The Wisecrack, W.R. 3, Toxis, Rampage, Seven Oaks, Bad Rulez, Fading Moments, The Donuts, 40Waysfromsunday, Short On Time, Decreto 77, Dead System and Oil & The Seagulls. We've included nudity, naughty words, alcohol and embarrassing pictures free of charge. Available around February/March.

Shows! Tours! Sheepfucking!
If you can't wait for Kickass Fest with a line-up that puts a certain Meerhout festival to shame, you can get a quick cheap fix at Punkfest, with 3/5 of the Kickass roster being present. Durai(UK) will play one of it's 3 belgian shows there, so don't miss out. This punkrock extravaganza will take place 3 March, at JH Animoro in Sint Genesius Rode, BE.

The UK/Scotland tour with Gino's Eyeball will be our first adventure abroad. Not only is that little island going to be confronted with belgian heroes Gino's Eyeball, Pie & Petit are tagging along for the ride, spreading their reputation of "roadies of death" across the glenns and hopefully surviving many round-a-bouts and junctions. Because of this, we've named it the Sheepfucking on the wrong side of the road tour.

Ofcoarse we are bringing plenty of filthy foreigners into Belgium every month with Drunktank(NL) in January, Straightaway(FR) in February and, seeking revenge for steeling all their women, Durai(UK), Sick Trick(UK) and Mistake us For Friends(UK) in March, April and May.
www.kickassrecords.org/shows for all the dates and details.

Kickass HQ
To wrap this newsletter up, the state of Kickass Headquarters. It's winter, it's cold and RumCoffee Special Blend ™ only gets us so far. So if you want to save us from freezing to dead, check out our distro and buy some cool shit from the likes of Funtime Records, Fat Wreck and Powered. It's the only thing that stands between us and unplugged shows, so drop by at shows or mail to distro@kickassrecords.org. You'll even get a printed version of this newsletter, with a jerk-off-worthy picture of your favourite punkrockidols on the back.

If you're in a band and you want us to release/distribute your demo/ep/lp/poems or set you up with some shows, don't be shy and contact us. Don't forget to give us some background information and a demo. By the way, did I mention I love tapes? You know, plastic little cases with a brown thingy that they said would kill the musicindustry? Well, use 'em.

For those of you who aren't afraid of some social contact, the Kickass Crew will take out those Wallon Wussies from Hangin' Out in a game of bowling. If you want to feel the sensation of certain victory, let us know and you can be part of our team. And if we don't win, we won't release their album, moehahahaha.

To further satisfy the internet heroes among you, we've put a messageboard online. You can find it at www.kickassrecords.org/board. Use it to talk shit about those fat gino's or those fashion faux-pas's commited by MTF! and to promote your own shows/bands/demo's/releases/websites. Be prepared however to back your shit up, or else we'll hunt you down for some old fashioned Balen Beatdown Brawl.

That about wraps it up. Support hometaping.
